Bitcoin ‘Inventor’ Craig Wright Loses Final Court Battle
In 2024, the High Court ruled that Craig Wright, who claimed to be Bitcoin’s creator Satoshi Nakamoto, was not the mysterious inventor of the cryptocurrency. Wright spent years trying to prove his identity, but the court found overwhelming evidence that his claims were false.
Judge James Mellor described Wright’s case as built on “lies and forged documents,” ruling that Wright had no part in writing the Bitcoin white paper or developing the blockchain technology. This decision brought an end to Wright’s legal campaign and rejected his efforts to control Bitcoin’s intellectual property.
The case also involved lawsuits Wright brought against crypto platforms like Coinbase and Kraken, which were based on his alleged ownership of Bitcoin’s IP. These lawsuits are now likely to fail following the ruling.
