What’s going on?

Huawei and MediaTek, two powerhouses in the tech industry, are locked in a fierce legal battle over patent rights in the UK. MediaTek has filed a lawsuit aiming to invalidate a European patent held by Huawei, arguing that the patent lacks the necessary inventive step, comparing it to an earlier Chinese patent. This isn’t just about a single patent—MediaTek has also accused Huawei of infringing on its standard-essential patents (SEPs) related to 4G and 5G technologies. In turn, Huawei is standing firm, denying the validity of MediaTek’s claims and insisting that their patent is robust and enforceable.
