Westfield vs Clearpay: Festive Fallout

In short: Westfield is suing Clearpay for over £665,000, accusing the payment provider of wrongly terminating their "buy now, pay later" partnerships over Christmas closures.

What's going on?

Westfield operates two major London shopping centers and had agreements with Clearpay to advertise within these sites. Clearpay claims Westfield breached their agreement by closing the centres for longer than agreed during the 2023 Christmas period. However, Westfield argues that these closures were legally required and in line with industry norms. A Westfield win, could set a precedent that protects businesses from unfair termination claims based on standard practices.
